๐Ÿ“– Buying Guide โ€” What to Look For

Gas vs. Electric vs. Induction โ€” Which Fuel Type Is Right?

Gas: Instant visual feedback, works in a power outage, preferred by most serious cooks for cooktop responsiveness. Oven is less even than electric. Requires gas line. Electric coil/smooth top: More even oven heat than gas. Slower cooktop response than gas or induction. Induction: Fastest heating, most precise temperature control, safest (cooktop stays cool), easiest to clean. Requires compatible cookware. No power outage backup.

Freestanding vs. Slide-In

Freestanding ranges have finished sides and can go anywhere. Slide-in ranges drop into a cutout for a built-in look but require the right counter depth and cutout width. Slide-in looks better; freestanding is more flexible. Slide-in costs $200โ€“400 more on equivalent models.

๐Ÿ’ก Nerd Tip: For gas ranges, the simmer burner matters as much as the power burner. A good power burner can hit 22,000+ BTU; any range can do that. A good simmer burner gets down to 500โ€“700 BTU for gentle heat โ€” chocolate, hollandaise, delicate sauces. Check the low-end BTU spec, not just the high-end.
